    older lab suffering from incontinence

I have a 11 year old (soon to be 12) lab who has been suffering from incontinence.  We took her to the vet a while back to see if she had a bladder infection, which she did not, however her protein levels in her urine were high and the vet wanted us to bring her back for further testing and the possibility of setting her up for a surgical procedure to strengthen her bladder muscles.  This procedure was going to cost up to $2500.  We have already invested $6000 in our sweet dog; two knee surgeries and extensive dental work (she suffered a severe injury to her mouth when she got caught in a beaver trap Sad[:'(]Angry). Long story short; we simply cannot afford the $2500 at the present time.  I have been using the Canine BLadder COntrol formula and as of yet it doesn't seem to be helping.  Any SUggestions?  Also, because of her knee injuries and advancing age she has some issues in the morning getting up from her bed.  What would be the best supplement to help her joint problems?

The main cause of your dog’s joint problems is the destruction of cartilage—the soft, spongy, shock-absorbing substance that covers the end of bones where they meet and form joints. Known in the medical world as “chondroprotectives”, when eaten provide nutrients that are required for repair and maintenance of joint tissue. These nutrients are found in joint supplements that have become popular because of their amazing ability to resolve joint pain and stimulate the growth of new cartilage. That, along with an good antioxidant formula, will also help protect against disease and the effects of aging. I checked the ONP store and they have a joint support kit and I would suggest you go for their maximum relief arthritis kit which covers the bases rather well, and I would not be surprised if you get rather good results in time. Good measurable results do not take place over night but it will not take all that long to see positive results. Here is the link to what I am talking about: Maximum Relief Arthritis Kit

and I am rooting for you.

    Me too.

I don't recall if you were home cooking for your dog, but, knowing what he or she is eating goes a long way. One of my dogs suffers from a form of juvenile arthritis. Keeping his weight down, and providing gentle exercise helps to keep joints functioning. Since your baby is a Lab, swimming would be ideal, it is the #1 exercise recommended for arthritic dogs. Eli takes In Clover K9 Connectin,, and is doing quite well. I am not familiar with the ONP Arthritis Kit, but I am sure it is top notch, as all their products are.

As for the urinary incontinence, that will happen to us all as we age. Perhaps the use of an "under garment" would be the best bet, along with the supplement you already use. Supplements take quite some time to notice an improvement, so, don't be discouraged.

We wish you all the best!

    Susie
