Asthma is very common today both in humans and in animals. Asthma in dogs is very much like that of asthma in humans. Canine Asthma could cause loss of appetite and general lethargy. Most people would associate bronchial asthma to dogs as triggers and not as suffers. If your dog has been coughing for a while and has not been eating well, it is a good idea to bring your dog to the veterinarian for a check-up. Once a diagnosis of allergic bronchitis has been made, treatment may consist of steroids, antihistamines, bronchodilators, or a combination of these drugs. Most dogs that have asthma can still lead an active life with the help of life-long medication. The best diet for dogs with asthma should be based on organic fruits and vegetables. Cold water fish including cod, salmon, mackerel, herring and halibut should be used as their only protein source. Extra virgin olive oil should be added for a healthy coat. Flaxseeds are also an excellent additive. Other food additives include rosemary, ginger and tumeric. No milk or other dairy products should ever be given to a dog with asthma.
