Rufus, my 5 1/2 yr. old BC rescue has been on a raw diet for almost 3 years. He eats anything so it was a really easy change.Recently, I have been giving him a mostly vegetarian diet using, lentils, garbanzo, kidney beans, tofu, tempeh, or eggs for protein. He gets raw organic Chicken backs chopped up every few weeks along with his daily raw veggies with rice, oats, potatoes, quinoa, or millet. I am a vegetarian and he goes on road trips with me, so then he eats what I am eating when we are traveling.
I recently switched his Cod Liver Oil to Hemp Oil, with trememdous results for his dry skin-he gets sometimes in the fall. Hemp Oil is a wonderful vegetarian source for Omega 3's and 6's, also with GLA's. I give him hemp seeds becuase they are so high in protein and enzymes ocassionally added to the mix of the day.He gets a multivit supplement, probiotic, digestive enzyme,"healthy Powder" (recipe from Dr. Pitcairn's book),toasted, ground up, organic eggshells for calcium daily.
I wondered if there was any research on Hemp Protein Powder as he loves dog smoothies, too. If there are any references for using hemp for dogs, I would really appreciate the resource.
