    Kitten Growth

    Hello everybody,

I've got a question: can a cat continue growing after reaching one year of age?  The reason I ask is, my younger cat Tangelo just turned one this pas month, but he still looks like he has some growing to do.  Specifically, he is disproportionate-- his body has reached full adult-cat length, but his legs are still short, and his head and neck are still kitten-size.  I've been feeding him only top-quality human-grade food (Weruva, Solid Gold, and Nature's Variety Homestyle from the Prairie for wet food; Wellness, Evo, and Solid Gold Indigo Moon for dry food.  And, yes, I am feeding him more wet than dry,) so I don't know what the problem could be.  Is it possible that he will have another growth spurt, even though he has passed the one-year mark?  What have your collective experiences been?

(I should mention, he is an orange tabby American Shorthair "mutt."  I got him at a shelter, so I know nothing about his parents' health or appearance).

    Re: Kitten Growth

    Hello!

I was wondering how Tangelo is doing. Has he grown anymore? It could be that he has some form of dwarfism, which is why Corgis are so short. They are big dogs with short legs.

I would think that Tangelo could still do some growing. My dog Eli continued to grow until he was about 18 months. he is a big boy, at 30 pounds. He's not fat, just large for the breed.

    Good luck!

Hi!  Thanks for the response!  Tangelo does not appear to have grown any further-- maybe a little, but it's hard to tell over a short period of time, and he certainly hasn't grown significantly.

In terms of dwarfism, wouldn't the veterinarian have noticed that?  Wouldn't it have been obvious when he was a kitten?  He seemed perfectly proportional at the outset.  Also, doesn't dwarfism only affect the legs?  Tangelo's head and neck are still kitten-size, in addition to his legs being short.

By the way, your dog is adorable!  I like Corgis-- one of my best friends in high school had two Corgis, and they were very sweet, so I always think favorably of the breed.  Big SmileDog

Thank you! My dogs are the love of my life!

As for Tangelo(I love the name!). Perhaps he is just bound to be a unique kitty! If he has no other problems, and is happy and healthy, than good for him!

    All the best!
