Hello Does anybody have any suggestions or advise?

    Hello,

First thank you for taking the time to read this message.  I am a pug breeder that has 5 pugs and one of them, Cowboy, our male stud has terrible smelling fish breath all the time!  I must tell you that we only feed all natural holistic foods and treats, we do not use any drugs unless no other alternative. Cowboy is 5 years old, has been to the vet to have his teeth checked. He does not have any teeth that are in need of repair. He chews things like the other pugs. He is the only one that has this problem, I even use a placque remover for their water dishes as well as brush all their teeth. I have tried minty treats and chews, dental bones, have also tried giving him a homeopathic digestive aid. (thinking it is his belly?) I don't know what to try next or what will work?  He is a very sweet pug that wants to be on your lap, or cuddled up next to you. So other than holding my breath, I'll try anything (natural or herbal) if it works!!!!!!

Help my little sweet stinky pug please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello!

You may want to try adding kelp, such as Proden's Plaque Off, which helps keep teeth clean, and freshens breath. Many of the "doggie greens" suppliments help to do the same thing, and have many health benefits as well.

    Good luck!

    Hi Susie,

Thanks for taking time to respond to my message.  Your information is very helpful but, he has been on C (Sea) Kelp for 3 years now.

Because of the health benefits I buy it in large quantities from Thomas Laboratories and they all get it and LOVE it too.  But thank you

    for your advise......

    Sweet little stinky pug!

I'm sure as a breeder you have spoken with other Pug people.  Has the vet checked for any ear/sinus infections?  Do his ears smell at all? (Maybe yeasty?)  If I were faced with your situation I would be thinking stomach or sinus also.  Usually if there is an impacted tooth or something with the teeth, the vet would notice while going over his mouth.  Does he get digestive enzymes?  Does he have any indications of any allergies?  Food or otherwise.  Licking feet, dandruff/itchy skin, foul smelling coat, abnormal color waste?  How do the other dogs behave around him and vice versa?  You mentioned he was eating holistic/natural food and treats,  is he getting "The Raw Diet", are you cooking for them, or are they getting actual dog chow from one of the better manufacturers?  If it is the dog chow, check the ingredients.  Does he ever get calming herbs?  Some of those are incredibly stinky.  Just some more thoughts on the subject and some things I have noticed in the past with some dogs, some ingredients etc.  You may have to end up doing an elimination diet to see if it is a food sensitivity.  If you have to do this or any other sort of elimination, it takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the offending "thing" to get out of the body.  Hope this gives you more to think about good or bad.

    Hello,

Yes I have done the elimination thing, to no avail though! He eats Blue Buffalo which has 23 vitamins and minerals in it. Cowboy is allergic to wheat, so I watch what type of treats he gets. Most of the time we bake our own treats with rice flour instead of wheat.

But being our stud he does get a homepathic calming aid when one of the girls are in heat and we don't want to breed them. We only breed our females once a year, but at present we have stopped breeding because of the economy. (We miss the puppies terribly though!) So anyhow, I think you may have pin-pointed the problem?  Do you know of any homeopathic or herbal calming aids that work and are NOT so STINKY? I will not drug him when the females come into season.... He isn't a stud who goes off the wall, he is quite calm except the last few days---then all pugs break loose! (That's our saying for all hell breaks loose!) Thank you and look forward to any calming aids you can suggest that won't cause this reaction.....

Pugs & Kisses to you from:

    Sweet little Cowboy Puggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
