    Most Important Suppliments for Dogs

    Hello to everyone!

I have 2 6 year old Corgi kids, who have been fed a homecooked diet for the last 2 years. I have recently started using Sojos premix, which is a great product. I vary the diet daily, between chicken, turkey, fish, beans and legumes, yogurt, cottage cheese, and eggs. I have been supplimenting with ONP Super Daily Vits + Skin  and Coat, ONP GI Support, ONP Lubriease(or Joint support, I forget what it's called, but it's very close to In Clover K9 Connectin), ONP Brewers Yeast and Garlic, Ultra Oil, ONP WF Antioxidant Blend, and Proden Plaque Off. I did try a product that could have replaced many of these supps, but I didn't feel it was helping my kids, so I went back to ONP products after a few months.

Well, times are tight, and money's hard. I can't afford all these supps.  What is absolutely necessary, and what can I omit until things are better? Has anyone used Dr Pitcairn's recipe for "Healthy Powder", and does it help? Can I give the kids a half or quarter of an adult MVI, as these are often BOGOS(Buy One Get One) at the local Walgreen's? Can I give them human Glucosamine products? My understanding is that it's water-soluble, so they can't be OD'd on it.

Any insights would be much appreciated.

I think this is an excellent question.  I have often wondered which one is the best as I give my older dog immune support, fish oil, vitamins for seniors, green-lipped muscle, solid gold food supplement, glucosamine + asta, and fiber.  He is doing well, but I see so many other supplements that I think he could be taking.  What is the most important for an older dog that is somewhat healthy to be preventative?

    Many blessings to you!

Since I also home cook my two 5 yr old schnauzers food, I was concerned about giving them the proper extras to round out their diet. I was also adding a barage of supplements, and not really knowing if it was correct. But, now, I'm giving them a cup of high grade well balanced kibble as a late afternoon/evening meal and adding flax seed oil to their mornign breakfast along with bone meal and brewers yeast. I felt that the cost of the supplements was far more than the cost of the kibble that supposedly has all the right nutrients.

I have to tell you....I have switched to Sojo's Europa Grain Free premix, and I add the protien of choice at meal time. The kids only get brewers yeast and garlic, salmon oil, vit C, and a glucosamine. I have dropped everything else due to cost(vit C and gluosamine are BOGOs all the time, so no issue there), and the kids don't seem worse for wear. I try to add an extra fruit and veg to the mix daily, and the kids are fine.

Don't know how well they will do as they age(they are both 6), but we will cross thatbridge when we get there.

    Thanks for the info!
